Is the Future of Cosmetic Injectables Needle-Free?

posted by

As the trend towards noninvasive continues, manufacturers are looking to make needles a thing of the past. Experts are estimating the needle free injection system market to reach up to $25 billion by 2024 and the rising trend in research and development is not just limited to the medical field. In fact, many manufacturers are looking to make cosmetic injectables completely needle free.

Developers have been experimenting with different needle-free methods including jet-based administrators, laser-powered injectors, powders, and more. Leading the developments include companies like PharmaJet, BioJect Technologies, Endo International, and Antares Pharma Inc.

One UK doctor is already taking advantage of the patient demand for needle-free cosmetic injections. Dr. Vincent Wong has already started administering BOTOX to patients through the use of a device called the Med-Jet, which he claims can treat common concerns like crow’s feet without the use of needles. The device is similar to many in the making, using pressurized carbon dioxide to administer a given substance to the skin. Results and reviews are mixed, but the demand for needle free treatment keeps patients coming.

While “jet injection” has shown much promise and has been one of the dominant research topics regarding needle free injections, other companies are still looking at all of the options when it comes to injection alternatives. Despite the fact that practitioners like Dr. Wong have already started to experiment with new technology, many injectors are still working towards offering their patients less painful and invasive treatment alternatives, such as use of microcannula during treatment.

So just how will needle free injection affect the aesthetics industry? The verdict is still out, but it will undoubtedly be a key player in the future of injectables and the continuing shift in demand for noninvasive treatments.
